3 HELPFUL INSIGHTS FOR FAMILIES FACING FEAR IN LIFE

James Taylor penned these words to a song, “I’ve seen fire, and I’ve seen rain.” As I write, my young nephew has been hit by a car and is having heart surgery. Without God, fear can overtake us in storms like this.  Recently we have seen hurricanes and earthquakes assail our world.  Fear can intercede in life at any moment. Maybe you haven’t been hit by a hurricane or an earthquake, but you feel like your world is in turmoil. Here are 3 Helpful Insights for Families Facing Fear in Life.

1. Fear often comes when we face difficulties in life.

And these difficulties or storms are more than weather events, for we may face them in marriage and family life, in relationships with others, in work, etc.  Journalist Soledad O’Brien wrote this concerning dealing with life’s storms: “Being frightened is a human emotion that we all understand. I’ve learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders.”

2. Fear often frustrates and unnerves us.

Being afraid is an inside job, an inner reaction produced in the brain, when it senses danger. The response about fear may bring about anxiety, distress, and even terror. Activist Noam Chomsky stated the truth, when he said, “When people are frightened, they develop means of concealment and aggression.” We might try to hide it, or be angry about it.

3. Fear may cause fright or flight, even making some furious and ready to fight.

Be aware that in this world, we may face marriage and family storms, persecution and nations-at-war storms, poverty and natural disaster storms, etc. Yet in all these stormy things, we can remember God and His Word:  “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distresses. He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad, so He guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for His loving kindness, and for His wonders to the sons of men!” – – Psalm 108: 28-31 Charles Stanley has a great sermon series on fear where he encourages us to take the Master’s hand; spend time in His Word and let God lead you from fear into the full assurance of His power in your life.

Remember, God knows when the things that frighten us are coming. His desire is for these fears to draw us closer to Him for refuge and safety.  Only Jesus can truly calm our fears.  Trust in Him and watch your fears subside.  https://familyprioritiesinc.org/shop
