FULL OF STRESS? HOW TO TREAT A SET BACK AS A STEP UP
IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE, TREAT A SET BACK AS A STEP UP.
Have you ever felt like life is surrounding you with too much? Too much stress, too much responsiblity, too much irritation, just too much stuff!
Life occasionally brings a setback; a trying situation comes along that brings with it challenges and stress. Often this is particularly true in marriage and family life. The home serves as a primary target for stress to rise as discouragements and trials test the health of home relationships. This is why we all need to learn how to TREAT A SET BACK, AS A STEP UP.
1. Life includes setbacks, so don’t be surprised when “fiery ordeals” come your way. Some folks seem to unravel if a testing time shows up, and that’s a shame. The wise realize that a setback always serves as an opportunity to grow and develop inner strength. They treat struggles as an endurance climb to overcome whatever befalls them. And they primarily practice this in marriage and family life.
2. Life includes setbacks, so prepare for them in advance. You know that the sensible people living on the coast of Florida don’t wait until the day of the hurricane to prepare for the storm. No, they ready themselves before a dark cloud ever begins to appear. Shouldn’t all of us ready ourselves for life to happen? And when a setback does emerge on the horizon, shouldn’t we step up ahead of time? Be sure that you do all you can to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your property. Then, relax and learn from marketer, A. L. Williams, who treated a setback as a step up. He said, “When all you can do is all you can do, then all you can do is enough.” Now that’s confidence.
3. Long ago, there lived a man named Peter who treated a setback, as a step up. He wrote the following, “Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed” (1 Peter 4:12-13). Did you get that “rejoice” part? We should step up and accept Jesus as our life and hope.
Know this, only those who personally accept Christ into their hearts have the blessed assurance of knowing they are safe and protected. So while this world comes with setbacks, you can step up and receive Christ and delight in the grace of His free gift of salvation. Then you can know the joy of walking with Him even through set backs. He makes the set backs become step ups! Trust Him and you will see His hand work on your behalf.
