3 VITAL NEEDS EVERYONE YEARNS FOR IN FAMILY LIFE
By Dr. James A. Perkins
Life in family involves the best of times and the most challenging of times. Many positive realities are part of normal family living. However, the sad fact is, loved ones can become wounded by hurtful things we may say and do. How may we become a more loving and positive member in the household? Consider applying these 3 Vital Needs Everyone Yearns for in Family Live.
1. In family, everyone yearns for a rope of hope. Times come when someone in the household feels like they are near slipping into a deep, emotional canyon. The wise family member comes to the rescue of the one falling and failing. Will you rise up and seek to minister life to a family member that hurts? Author Tracy McMillan is right, when she said, “Caring about people, about things, about life is an act of maturity.” Are you mature enough to meet the vital need of a loved one?
2. In family, everyone yearns to be encouraged by others. Each of us knows what it feels like to struggle and hurt. Years ago, singer Lynn Anderson shared this tune that’s pertinent for all of us. She sang:
“I beg your pardon. I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine there’s gotta be a little rain sometime.”
If we want to get out of the “rain” and into the “sunshine” hear what speaker, John C. Maxwell, wrote about encouragement. “A word of encouragement from a teacher to a child can change a life. A word of encouragement from a spouse can save a marriage. A word of encouragement from a leader can inspire a person to reach her potential.”
3. In family, everyone yearns to love and be loved. While we all know these words are true, how fast can joy flip to sorrow in an household conflict? Therefore, be wise enough to step up and be a more positive, loving family member. The late, great basketball coach John Wooden, said it right “The most important thing in the world is family and love.” Please heed Wooden’s words, and go make it so!
