By Dr. James A Perkins

Many marriages and families include times when conflicts occur between loved ones, and this is normal in life Taking simple steps to make amends brings hope and healing. However, occasionally family members refuse to get things right, causing relationships to remain broken, and some stay this way for years. So it should be helpful to know 4 Ways to Restore What’s Broken in Marriage and Family Life. Let’s consider the C.U.R.E.
C – Calm Down. Actor and director, Tom Welling, offers this insight that may start the healing process. He wrote, “I have so much chaos in my life, it’s become normal. You become used to it. You have to just relax, calm down, take a deep breath and try to see how you can make things work rather than complain about how they’re wrong.” Restoring relationships starts when others let things work.
U – Undergird Everything with Unconditional Love. The surefire way to restore a broken marriage or family requires loving unconditionally. This kind of love says, “I love you no matter what you’ve done or do.” Now in order for this type of love to come forth, the wounded parties must surrender anger, resentment, bitterness, and pride. And any person that let’s go of such negativity can replace brokenness with unconditional love.
R – Restoring Relationships Means Giving Up Our Rights. How easy to claim our rights, yet the wise opt for responsibility. By surrendering our rights and being responsible, we can cast off past failures and open the door for unconditional love. As pastor William Barclay, wrote, “Love always involves responsibility and love always involves sacrifice.” So broken marriages and families should give up their rights, live with responsibility, and sacrifice for the sake of love.
E – Exchange Your Plans and Embrace God’s. Broken marriages and families need more than human plans and efforts to fix what’s wrong. Often we have problems because we ignore God’s will for our own lives, and this leads to conflict. By turning to Jesus, we invite Him to restore life challenges. Since He is the Expert, why not restore your marriage or family by allowing Jesus to take control and bring healing to you. He said, “Love never fails.”
