In this world, multitudes of people deal with their own brand of fear. Lots of us have a fear of heights.  My son and daughter-in-law just returned from climbing up Machu Picchu in Peru.  I would never do that! Don’t you find it amazing how one person may be terribly afraid of a particular thing, yet not bothered at all by other things. Here are 3 insights to assist you in overcoming fear in your life.

  1. To overcome fear in your life, ask a family member or friend to be your partner in dealing with what frightens you.

Then, regularly meet and talk openly about itAim to uncover the major cause of your fear by answering what bothers you, and why. Heed the words of the late, African statesman, Nelson Mandela who said, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

2.  To overcome fear in your life, give a family member or friend permission to ask you “tough” questions.

Realize that what bothers you resides inside you. Allowing another person to probe into the deeper things is essential, if you want to win over fear. Give your family member or friend the “green light” to walk with you through the deeper issues inside that frighten you. Embrace the truth shared by Mark Twain, who wrote, “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.” Also Henry Ford stated, “One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.”

  1. To overcome fear in your life, rely on the only One who will truly help you conquer your fear.

Memorize and mediate on the following statements. The Bible presents this truth in Psalms 56:3: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You (God).” “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfected in love.” (1 John 4:18). Fear not, for I amwith you; Be not dismayed, for I amyour God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with My righteous right hand’ (Isaiah 41:10).
