3 WAYS FAMILIES CAN MAKE THANKSGIVING A DAILY WAY OF LIFE.
Thanksgiving is more than food, fellowship, and football. The ultimate reality about the holiday is that we should celebrate it everyday. What would our marriage and family life look like, if each day we live by celebrating and giving thanks in all things. Here are 3 Ways Families Can Make Thanksgiving a Daily Way of Life.
1. Treating Thanksgiving as a daily way of life should be about respecting, honoring, loving, and joyfully serving our loved ones. Those who embrace the attitude of respect, honor, love, and serving others can radically transform the landscape of home life. The great Leonardo da Vinci wrote, “Who sows virtue reaps honor.” Imagine how attractional your life can be, if every day you exhibit virtue and goodness in all you do. Would your loved ones be thankful for your respectful and honored witness?
2. Treating Thanksgiving as daily good news means that your family members see the best of you, for it’s your way of life. Are loved ones drawn to you? If you want them to see the positive side of you more and more, then live every moment with good news. By doing so, you influence family members to be thankful for you. Also, being consistently thankful becomes contagious to others. It’s a win, win! Listen to what Anne Frank said, “Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is.”
3. Treating Thanksgiving as a life daily filled with opportunity means you rejoice in the good times and develop godly character in the bad times. Our mission in family life ought to be that we sincerely want the good in home life. And while bad times may come, for they surely do, we can learn to convert them to good as soon as possible. Such an approach to life empowers us to daily delight in great family experiences. And we can view any setbacks as present opportunities to step up and convert every bad thing to good.
Will you commit to making Thanksgiving a daily way of life? You can, if you so desire. The wise Norman Vincent Peale said it best. He wrote, “Change your thoughts and you change your world.” I call that a wonderful family plan, that if applied daily, makes every moment a Thanksgiving way of life!
